Administrative History: The Hornby Island Residents and Ratepayers Association is the governing body for local concerns and issues. HIRRA was predated by the Hornby Island Farmers Institute and and the Hornby Island Propery-Owners and Residents Accociation.

Scope and content: The records of this collection pertain predominantly with the development of the local Island government and HIRRAs’ interaction with other facets of government, officials and individuals in the pursuit of resolution to issues deemed important at the time by the Association. This collection also contains the records of the Farmers Institute and the Property-Owners Asscociation as these eventually morphed into what would become HIRRA.

Immediate source of acquistion: All original accession date(s) and donor(s) are unknown as the Hornby Island Community Archives acquired the records several year prior to their being accessioned in 2018. In 2017 Mary and Elaine Savoie donated Doris Savoie’s records, those documents pertaining specifically to the HIRRA organization are contained in accural

Arrangement: The original filing scheme of the records was reconstructed during archival arrangement on the basis of chronological order and some classification to subject (examples – postal services, electrification).
