Administrative History:

In 1991 Conservancy Hornby Island was established as a Society, with the intent to “preserve, protect and foster stewarship fo the human and natural environment of Hornby Island and adjacent waters” among other goals such as establishing natural habitat preserves and to encourage public education and community participation, as stated in its’ Constititution.

Scope and content: The collection inlcudes textual records, correspondance, reports, graphic material and ephemera related to the organizations mandate to preserve and protect Hornby Islands’ environment, to acquire land and to educate and engage with the Community.

Source of supplied content: Tiltle is based on the creator of the collection.

Immediate source of acquisition: The collection contains previously accessioned material (992.24 and 993.7) collected by achivist and or committee member(s) in 1992 and 1993, and the files of Thea Jensen donated by Judith Lawrence in 2017. All other original accession date(s) and donar(s) are unknow as the Archives acquired the records several years prior to their being accessioned in 2018.

Arrangement: The origianl filing scheme of the records was reconstructed during archival arrangement of the basis of file markings on the documents in order to retain as much of the original order as possible. However, some rearrangement of the records may have occurred between donation and accessioning as the records were stored for a number of years and then transferred to the archives building before being accessioned and processed in 2018.
